ETEC647 Week 2 Blog - Designing Assignments / Guest Speaker

Aloha,
I found working in groups to design future class assignments very interesting. Our group was Rachel, Myla, and Jake. We met in the Elluminate sessions at the end of class. We also communicated via email and Skype. I am new to Skype and finally got it running on my PC. As an aside you need to have Skype on-line before you can add or invite contacts. Yes I am a tech guy and I still had that problem!

After looking at the posted assignment ideas on the course wiki site, I am impressed with the range of ideas for the assignments. Everyone seems to be into producing videos which is a new thing to me. In this class I am looking forward to learning how to create effective educational videos.

I was impressed our guest speaker, Annie St. Jacques and her research in educational technology and of course seeing pictures of Nova Scotia and Halifax. She talks about a blended online learning design (http://sjannie.wordpress.com/about/ ) where teaching occurs both synchronously and asynchronously.

I am going to spend tonight doing the week 3 module stuff.

See everyone next week.
Carl

  1. Hey Carl,
Collaborating with a group at a distance has been a trend nowadays, thanks to the tech tools available.

I have been using Skype for a few years to communicate with friends and family via video chat. It is quite handy when you want to meet with groups at a distance.

Google Docs is another tool to use for collaborating since you can create a document (in .doc format) and share with other people. The cool thing about Google Docs nowadays is that you work together in real time, meaning that you can actually see your collaborators type on the document!

Great post and thanks for sharing!
